5 ways to improve your quality of sleep

Sleep is something we don’t speak about often yet the role it plays in healing the body is crucial.


Scientific research suggests we need anything from 7-10 hours of sleep per night and while many of us may achieve this some of us still wake up in the morning feeling tired. Then we have the other end of the spectrum, those who don’t get enough sleep surviving on less than 7 hours per night.


Sleep is an essential function that allows your body and mind to recharge, leaving you refreshed and alert when you wake up. Think about it some of us have 16-20 hour long days and yet we only get 7-10 hours rest if we ‘re lucky.


How can we improve the quality of our sleep?


There are various ways we can improve our sleep quality some of which include:


  • Create a sleep routine – Something as simple as going to bed the same time every night can improve your sleep quality.


  • Manage everyday stress – Every day stress can impact our quality of sleep and sleep patterns. Practicing routines to help keep your stress levels at bay like reading a book, meditation, gentle exercise and just being in nature more is a great way to enhance your sleep


  • Magnesium – If you have a magnesium deficiency you may struggle with a decent sleep pattern try taking a magnesium supplement or adding magnesium rich foods to your diet


  • Essential oils – Oils such as lavender and sandalwood are good in helping the body relax


  • Teas- Herbal teas that contain Passion Flower, and Valerian Root are known to help induce a peaceful nights sleep
