Vaginal dryness, yes, I said it. It's something so many women go through, and we don't talk about it enough, or we feel ashamed of it. But let's not be ashamed because it is happening. Why? Because our estrogen levels may be declining or low. This is one of the main reasons why it's a common symptom for women going through menopause. However, women can also experience it during breastfeeding, after childbirth, or due to certain medications. The symptoms of vaginal dryness vary from woman to woman but can include dryness or lack of moisture in the vagina, itching or irritation in the vaginal area, pain or discomfort during sexual intercourse, light bleeding after intercourse, and urinary symptoms such as increased frequency or urgency. Staying hydrated is also important as it can have an impact on vaginal dryness. Now, let's discuss some natural remedies that can support with vaginal dryness: Evening Primrose Oil: Evening primrose oil, derived from the seeds of the evening primrose plant, is sometimes used as a natural remedy for vaginal dryness. It contains gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an omega-6 fatty acid believed to have anti-inflammatory properties. Some women report relief from vaginal dryness by taking evening primrose oil orally or using it topically. Black Cohosh: Black cohosh is an herb commonly used to alleviate menopausal symptoms, including hot flashes and mood swings. It has been suggested that black cohosh may help relieve vaginal dryness as well. Dong Quai: Dong quai, also known as Angelica sinensis, is an herb traditionally used in Chinese medicine to treat various gynecological conditions, including menopausal symptoms. It is believed to have estrogen-like effects, which may help alleviate vaginal dryness. Phytoestrogenic herbs: Some plants contain compounds called phytoestrogens, which are plant-based substances that can mimic the effects of estrogen in the body.
